Madison FUMC Preschool

Madison First United Methodist Preschool

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6.

The First United Methodist Church Preschool has been a ministry of the Church since 1996. We currently have 75 children enrolled age 1 to 5. We have an exemplary staff of 15 teachers, assistants, music and art teacher and director. The preschool operates Monday-Friday from 8:00 – 12:00, and adheres closely to the calendar of the Morgan County Schools.

The goal of the Madison FUMC Preschool is to provide children in the community a warm, caring Christian environment where they can socialize, explore, learn, and grow. Using Jesus as our role model, we will nurture each child spiritually, physically, and emotionally. We will strive to create positive academic and social experiences to foster an enthusiastic view of learning. The Preschool ascribes to a developmentally appropriate curriculum that is literature based and theme related and focuses on language, cognitive skills, motor skills, and social development to meet the individual needs of each child within a Christian environment.

Our program consists of small classes in well equipped, inviting rooms. The students’ day consists of play, art activities, practice with both small and large motor skills, reading, manipulatives and music in their classrooms. There is also dramatic play, cooking and science activities, circle time, and free choice activities. Computers are available in the Four year/Pre-K classroom. Once a week all classes have separate music and art classes with the specials teacher. The children play outside on our playground in all but very cold or rainy weather. The Threes and Fours/Pre-K attend monthly story time at the Morgan County Library along with other field trips. The Fours/Pre-K attend chapel each week led by church staff. Additionally our program consists of the Animated Alphabet, part of the kindergarten curriculum at Morgan County Primary School. Our children consistently score 100% ready for Kindergarten on the GKAP. Our school is designated a Program of Excellence for Young Children by the United Methodist Church.

Speech and developmental screenings for children 3 years and older are done, at the request of parent or teacher, by the Morgan County School System Special Services staff. Individual photos are made in the fall and spring by Jason White Photography. Class pictures are made in the spring. Parent –teacher conferences are held in the spring for fours and on an as needed basis for others. Fundraisers are held in the fall and spring. We have holiday and birthday parties in each class culminating in our Graduation and End of the Year celebrations. See PICTURES HERE! In all of our classes, the goal is to achieve a balance of gender and age that will enhance the learning process.

We have an experienced staff that is devoted to the preschool program. In order to offer your children the strongest preschool experience possible, the teachers strive to meet the individual needs of each child. The teachers participate in staff development workshops throughout the year to ensure your child is getting the best possible education.

Registration for the upcoming school year is held in late winter/early spring. Priority is given to our current students, followed by church members and then members of the community. Registration forms and fees must be presented in person by the parent or legal guardian on the assigned day. Admission is open to all children of both Church members and non-members, without regard to race, creed, sex or national origin.
