Hurricane Helene Relief
Hurricane Helene Relief
Thank you for your generous help of getting hundreds of bottles of water to the church last Sunday! We delivered a trailer full of drinking water to Wesley UMC late Sunday afternoon. The supplies where distributed the following morning to families who were without municipal water supply. This was literally a drop in the bucket of the needs that will be emerging over the coming weeks and months.
Here’s how you can help at this time:
- Volunteer with the Mission Team this Saturday 6:30AM – 3:30PM
Please meet by the church vans in the parking lot off Main Street on Saturday morning at 6:30AM. We will carpool in the church vans as to not create more traffic. When ee will arrive to Wesley UMC in Evans, GA we will get assignments and disperse from there. Dress to pick up sticks, branches and logs. Leather gloves, jeans, sturdy shoes are recommended. If you are knowledgeable about chainsaw use, we can use you. Notify Rev. Zack Martin at zack@madisonfumc.com about your availability.
List of items to bring along if you have them:- Rakes & Shovels
- Chainsaws
- Trash Bags
- Paper Towels
- Work Gloves
- Personal Water, Snacks & Lunch
- Optional: Helmets with face shields and eye protection
- Donate Tarps, Water, and contractor garbage bags.
Drop off at our trailer in the Epworth Portico 9-4 Thursday or Friday. We’ll take the load down on Saturday morning with us. - Prayers and monetary giving.
Give to our “Hurricane Helene Response” fund online at Madisonfumc.com or write a check on Sunday mornings. Funds will be distributed to local churches to feed communities and provide other basic needs.
Our church conference has experienced and well-trained disaster response coordinators who are on the ground in South Georgia and North Georgia. They are assessing needs and planning strategies on how to best help. At this point, do not self-deploy. Do not collect goods or items unless there is a specific request from someone local. We will wait for an official invitation to respond with a trip or request to fulfill a need. Thank you for your willingness to help as the needs arise. We watching our facebook page for mission opportunities in the coming days and weeks. We are helping our neighbors to the East for the long haul.
In Christ,
Rev. Zack Martin
