February Mission Emphasis
Hildale, Utah was the home of a fundamentalist sect of the Morman church known as the FLDS. Their leader was arrested and sentenced to life in prison in 2012 for the forced marriage of underage girls. This corrupt leadership left the people of this community traumatized and very disillusioned by organized religion. They are still hurting economically and spiritually, and the children perhaps suffer the most. A group of dancers, teachers, and parents from Pointe of Grace Dance Academy (including members of Madison FUMC) will travel to Hildale with SCORE this summer for our third mission trip to this community. We hold a free dance camp each morning for boys and girls, many of whom are neglected and reside in impoverished homes. God has also miraculously opened a door for us to teach square dancing to a few teens who are still part of the FLDS at their school building. There were so many individual success stories from our trips – shy kids who came out of their shells, insecure kids who gained confidence, hungry kids who received nourishment, and lonely kids who found lasting connections. We appreciate any support you can give to help us continue to build relationships in the community and share the love of Jesus with them. Want to go with us to Utah? There are lots of service projects unrelated to dancing that this community needs, and we would love for you to join us if you are interested.
